What is RoundTable? (My own personal vaporware)

As of now RoundTable is naught but an idea, but I think it's a good one!

I've been a fantasy role player for over a decade. Fantasy role play remains one of my favourite hobbies. Yet as we grow up, get jobs and, *shock*, meet girls; my long term role playing group and I find ourselves able to meet and adventure less and less frequently.

Hang on, I'm a programmer! Surely I can do something about this? Hopefully! I am intending to work on a system to enable pen and paper style role play adventures to be performed over the WWW. This project is code named RoundTable.

Right now RoundTable is nothing more than a plan, and an excuse to research and play with a variety of technologies.

Eventually I'd like it to be some web-based system hosted on a server and requiring nothing more of a user than a competent web browser (yes, I'm looking at you IE!).

I'm publishing this page today (26/07/2009) as this idea has been rattling around my brain for at least three years. I've been talking to various folk about it for at least two years and the draft of this page has been saved in my site's database for over one year (since 25/03/2008).

It's time to do something about this!
